Karl needs a foster home!
Meet Karl, one of NLOL's favorite little Chicago Red Dogs! We first saw Karl at Chicago's Animal Care and Control and were smitten with his giant grin and lust for life. He was covered with little scars and flea strike spots that indicated a life spent outside, probably as a yard guard dog. We have no idea what breed Karl is – so we've bestowed upon him the coveted breed title "Chicago Red Dog," a slight modification on the all-encompassing "Chicago Brown Dog" mutt moniker.
As mentioned, Karl likely lived primarily in a yard before he ended up at ACC, and his social skills are often lacking because of his rough beginnings and total dearth of socialization with many people or dogs. It usually takes Karl some time to warm up to new friends. Once he does he becomes the most loving and devoted companion! Karl loves to snuggle up close to you and never has a problem asking for belly rubs. Karl is extremely food motivated and he has easily learned to sit, lay down, and loves fetching a ball for you. This special guy deserves to find someone who will show and teach him about the things that he has never been fortunate enough to have... like living in a home with someone and being able to gain the love and trust that he deserves.
Karl's ideal home would be an adult home without other pets, although he may be able to live with the right female dog. Cats are an unknown with Karl but we'd be willing to test him for a good applicant. The best applicants will have a firm personality, some dog training experience, and will be able to hold Karl to a Nothing In Life Is Free (NILIF) lifestyle. Experience with a smart headstrong dog is preferable but not absolutely required. Please contact us today to meet, foster, or adopt Karl!
